Last week the “Wild” students from Omokoroa Point School (OPS) renovated the bug hotel as it was looking a little neglected… our foundation is a solid concrete base, which the students then built up from using wooden pallets and timber. Each level has different materials such as bamboo, bricks, rocks, branches etc… inside it, which will hopefully become habitats for different insects and (we hope) native skinks, who might use the onduline (a lightweight corrugated roofing and cladding product made from organic fibres saturated with bitumen) that we added.
The reno team with the latest model. A work in progress…
Luke’s sign and adding our first guest!
The area surrounding the hotel has been sprayed to keep the kikuyu grass down, but we are hoping to plant some native plants around this area create some shade and make this a real little hive of activity.
